I hope this is some really early prototype or not genuine or something - seeing for instance bits where there is even stuff dating back to XP, 7, 10 and new approach all rammed onto the same screen is just really amateur hour. Though the overall aesthetic if properly implemented throughout would be quite good.

And Windows File Explorer is still exceedingly poor and desperately in need of a complete overhaul with the whole clutter in the top section redone from scratch and the left hand navigation pane put to much better use including a real time listing of currently active folder destinations as a drop down entry as well as things like recently locations actually working properly in quick access.

Never mind an actual proper repository/dependency package management and store system which actually works with a translation/compatibility layer to bring older legacy apps in via community efforts, etc. if the original developer is no longer around and/or won't do it, etc.

Something I didn't mention in my post last night, it's actually very easy to create an offline account during setup - just click on Sign-in options and the Offline account option is right there in front of you. And you don't even need to turn off your internet connection.

It looks rubbish (didnt want to trip swear filters) and I will probably only use it once an LTSC build comes out (less crap on it). Thankfully MS announced one more LTSC Build of Win10 before Win11 becomes the norm.

Upgrades could be free.

This week we've seen Windows 11 leak. And as it seems, a release is imminent. this raises the question what Microsoft will do, will you need a new license, an upgrade license or is the update to Windows 11 free? Well, indocations are strong that the upgrade to Windows 11 will be free even for the older operating systems.

There are strong indications that Microsoft will announce Windows 11 at the end of this month. Product configuration keys for Windows 7 and 8.1 are emerging that indicate that the upgrade to Windows 11 will be free even for the older operating systems , according to XDA Developers. The medium has not yet tested whether the upgrade actually works, as only an unknown version of Windows 11 has appeared online for the time being.

Since the release of Windows 10, users with all recent versions of the operating system can upgrade to the latest version for free through the Media Creation Tool. Microsoft announced in 2015 that users would only be able to install the new version for free for one year. So far, however, the upgrade is still available without a new license via a small detour.

Free upgrades from Windows 7 also work with Windows 11, as word gets around. Users still had old licenses that they tried out in the leaked build and lo and behold: there is a positive message from the activation server with the current build.

Linux is free and looks better and probably works better... without telemetry.... You can bet there is more of that in Win11. Maybe it is now time to move to Linux
