I remember my first card was a Voodoo 3 3000 for a little over £100. Since then 6800 => 7800gt => 7900gt (SLi) => 4870 => 6850 => gtx970. I don't think any individual card was over £200 new (though the gtx970 was bought at a good discount). It's been almost 7 years since i got the gtx970, but looking around today, the best thing i can get for under £200 is.....well a second hand gtx970. Until i can get a decent card for under £300, maybe £400, I just can't justify the purchase.

1070 was £385 from here first week they were released
970 was £269
X800xl was less than £200 I think.

can’t remember price of various TNTs and 3DFX cards except for the geforce 3 which was £300 and I got buyer’s remorse

£275 for a Vega 56 in 2019 Inc three free games

It got sold for £425 in February this year

Bought an Xbox Series X for £500 with two controllers. Absolutely awesome bit of kit and still completely baffled as to why people are paying crazy money for low to mid range GPUs

I paid £360 for a brand new Gigabyte 2060 Gaming OC from an official retailer around December 2019. (Back then I thought THAT was expensive, ha).

I already had a second hand 1070 which worked perfectly. Dont remember how much I got it for. Sold it for £180 months before the insanity of the 30 series happened. Its worth at least double that today.

Prices are coming down now though. My 3070ti shall be in my hands within a year, I think. Not going to pay more than 10% over msrp. (Its nice to see other buyers arent biting the double price tags these days)

So I thought a different way of looking at this would be to take account of inflation. Here's my list with the purchase prices plugged into an online RPI calculator:

2004: £317.25 for Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB With inflation: £528
2006: £17.78 for 64MB C3D Radeon 7000 With inflation: £28
2008: £131.75 for ATI Radeon HD3850 512MB With inflation: £191
2010: £236.57 for Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB With inflation: £330
2011: £149.99 for Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme **OcUK Exclusive** With inflation: £199
2013: £362.76 for Sapphire Radeon Vapor-X HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB With inflation: £448
2017: £574.79 for ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Strix Advanced Edition With inflation: £654
2018: £74.14 for Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 With inflation: £81
2018: £179.99 for Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 4G With inflation: £197
2020: £398.99 for Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Pulse 8GB With inflation: £414

The one that stands out to me is the 1080 - which by coincidence costs very roughly the same as the current MSRP for the 3080FE.

So currently you can get a Founder's Edition for AIB money?

Like Haggisman "980ti Zotac Amp! Omega from OcUK for the absolute bargain price of £319" think just over 4 years ago is my last card.
Before that i upgraded like every year from 2001-2016. Use to be fun but prices have been ruined with the RTX20 series.
Lets think, in no particular order i think ive had at least Hercules kyro 2, gf4 ti4400, MSI gf5 fx5800nu (lovely art cover but dont think the card was the best) , gf 6800, 7800gt & sli, gtx970, gtx980ti , radeon 9800, radeon 9800xt, 4870, 4870x2 (sure this was only like £370 brand new, what a price for 2 top card sandwiched together compared to current prices), radeon 5850 & crossfire. 5870. Something like that

"To me it shows how bonkers these prices are as I have to pay least double the £348 to see a decent upgrade."

You are NOT paying double, actually you're paying about the same.
The dollar/pound/euro has Inflated!!! (Just look at the price of copper and other raw materials)
I was trading in the markets for over 15 years before I retired and I see the start of a new commodity cycle.
Unless I'm mistaken this is the NEW NORMAL and these prices are here to stay.
You are likely to see prices hold and even increase going forward now.
It's been a long time since real inflation has hit the western world but this is the start.

£200 for a 5870 back in the day
£400 for a 680

I paid exactly £425 for my 2070 super in early to mid 2020 which i thought at the time was pretty expensive, then sold that for exactly the same amount and got a 2080 cos i wanted a card that i could waterblock and that came with a waterblock as standard for £500.

I never thought i'd pay £1500 for a 3090 though which i ended up doing after failing to get a 3080... which is even more bonkers.
Looking back on it, would you say the 3090 been worth it now? Cause i never thought i'd pay £500+ for a chair but my goodness it's been worth it haha.

Nope, absolutely not!

If i can get my hands on a 3080 i would sell the 3090 in a heart beat. The difference in performance is negligible for gaming and. I would consider a 3080ti tbh but again its a rare and difficult card to get hold of.

Well I do, since ocuk are selling most 3070 currently at £900 or just under, that's double what I paid.

If Ocuk do a voucher deal least it brings them down massively.

It's not all inflation. Interesting though that prices were or appear to be based on posts what I expected years ago.

Checked my old orders here and bagged a Gigabye 480 for £220 in 2011
