Hi,

I'm looking for advice on what to purchase to upgrade my system ready for upcoming next gen games and to run current games such as warzone & total war a bit smoother.
Current build is - i3-8100, H310M Motherboard, 2 x 8GB Corsair DDR4 RAM, Adlink S70 1TB SSD, GTX1060-3gb.

Budget is anything from £500-£1500.

Hope this is all info needed. Thanks.

Hi welcome to the forum

I would say keep hold of the GTX 1060 for the short term until gpu availability/pricing goes back to normal. You can reuse the SSD and maybe the ram depending on the speed.

So you can probably just get away with a cpu/board upgrade for the time being. Something like an R5 5600X or R7 5800X and a B550 board such as the MSI B550 Tomahawk.

What case and power supply do you have ? Also what speed is that Corsair ram ?

Thanks for the reply. The ram is 3200Mhz. Power supply is Fractal Design 80 + 500w PSU. Case is Riotoro CR480.
I hope this helps.

This would be my base upgrade for you.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £284.03 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Then add a cpu either a 5600x or 5800x

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £268.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £398.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

The real problem is GPU as Lee menttioned.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,279.48 (includes shipping: £10.50)

or faster

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £870.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Hopefully with crypto currency being banned on china gpu stock might increase and prices drop to more sensible levels later this year.

dfour - thank you very much for your reply. I'll look into all these bits and will get cracking on with it!
Do you think there's a vast difference in the 2 CPUs?

The ram is fine to reuse then. The psu could probably do with a refresh if it is one of the lower end Fractal units like the Integra. Up to you on the case. You could see what temps are like if just going with a cpu upgrade, or you can look at some of the cases listed above.

It depends on how long you plan to keep your pc. The 5600x is a great value gaming cpu, theoretically the 5800x will be best as the new consoles are 8 core/16 threads so hopefully more game will be written to take advantage of the amount of cores/threads in the end.
