Have you got a UST laser projector? What's your opinion of them.

Hi.

I am thinking of selling my Sony 75" ZD9(never thought I would)

I've seen reviews on HDTVTEST you tube channel of UST projectors.
But I can't make my mind up which one to go for.

I want one that can do 130-150" and is good for films and my PC.
Don't really want to spend more than £2,300 for it.

What would you guy recommend?

My only experience is with a Xiaomi Mi 4k UST laser projector
I bought it from ebay for £1k about 2 years ago I think
I replaced my TV with it in the living room

It definitely has the wow factor
4k images look superb
4k upscaling with an Nvidia shield makes 1080p content look great

with an 100" ALR screen, daylight viewing is fine, dim room viewing is incredible.
The projector isn't great in daylight without the ALR screen so it's a must.

My main issue with it is the projector fan noise. I built mine into a TV unit to hide the projector which helps a bit with the noise. You zone it out after 2 minutes of watching something.

That is 1080p native (using tiling/checkers) to get 4k correct?

Going by reviews it is not as uses same chip as 1080p model and cost not much more and that is what caught my attention as 4k ones are far higher cost.

Its 3840x2160 with ALPD 3.0, so I think you're right

Still looks astonishing at 100" though!

The new Benq V7050i looks good.

But the price of the ALR screen are like graphic cards prices!

I saw a Epson LS300 yesterday, the fan noise at full brightness was too much for me, it was very loud. With the brightness turned right down the noise wasn’t noticeable and the image was still very good. It was on a Benq alr screen.

I’m going to order the ls500 from Amazon, probably a used one and if it’s too loud it’s going back.

There’s a review here and he mentions fan noise

@tres what screen do you have mate? that setup looks nice, how loud is the fan when sitting 10 feet away? Is it really loud?

Never heard of that one.
So the LS500 is 4K and the LS300 is 1080p

I know the LS500 has to be 30 inch's away from the screen.

It won't be an ALR screen.
When I sell my 75ZD9 I will buy a UST then look at a framed 130" screen.

100” ALR PET crystal screen from XY screens. Got it via AliExpress after recommendations.
Its much better now it's in the unit, probably normal projector noise but it was my first and I wasn't used to it! As soon as anything is playing then it's not really noticeable.

You can always go ALR at sometime in the future. Try and trial a UST with & without the screen.

Which to me looks absolutely useless, no different from a mirror.

For UST, you want ALR that actually reflects ambient light away from your viewing position.
The only way to do this is micro structure.

Here is the magnification of mine

And here is how it works

Angled reflective surface only reflects from light coming from underneath the screen (where your projector is)

Imagine daylight coming from behind your viewing position - it'll hit the orange reflective surface and be reflected downwards
Ceiling lights are reflected back up/absorbed

When I first unrolled the screen, I thought they'd sent me the wrong one. It was bright grey.
I then changed my viewing position 180 degrees and it was black.

They are expensive but absolutely worth the money, and you can always buy it as an upgrade in the future.

It does say ALR on the page.

It's maybe like a lot of TV\Audio things. Some people pay £200 for a HDMI lead.
I would go for that ALR one.
