You need to keep calling it an acorn, it's been too late to rename it now.

I think you are right! I will do just that.

I suspect the seeds are dead but so will get new ones. Acorn trees and Pine trees in the mix.

Trees in general… I do like them but just can’t identify them it would seem lol

I kept a massive pine cone like that for a couple of decades too. Think I just chucked it out in the end.

why does it open and close then? idk the answer to that is it alive?

I think it's humidity. Its wants to release its seeds when it's raining so opens in humid environments. I think.

Wrong way around.. Closes when it's wet.
Apparently they don't want to release when it's wet as seeds don't disperse so far.

It's not alive.
