Soldato
What fruit is this?
There's dozens dropping onto our patio at the rear end of our back garden from several overhanging frees behind which grow in a small wooded area.
They're quite small and about the size of a large grape, but spherical. They also have a bum cleft like a peach:
I cut one in half and it does contain a stone:
I wouldn't mind gathering some and making a crumble or tart (not that I've made a tart or crumble before). I bit into one and spat it out, it tastes a bit like a plum and has a similar consistency, but not quite as sweet, though it is a sweet and pleasant taste
My googling doesn't seem up to scratch this evening, can someone tell me what it is and if it's safe to eat?
