It's that time again when I have the upgrade itch which either needs scratching or putting back in the box till later. Not sure I need anything but here goes. Current system is:

MB - MSI Tomahawk Max
CPU - Ryzen 5 3600
RAM - Team Group Dark Pro "8 Pack Edn" DDR4 3200 MHz
Cooler - Corsair H115i Pro
HD - Corsair Force MP510 NVME M.2 960 GB (games installed on this drive)
HD - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD
GPU - Gigabyte RTX 3070
PSU - EVGA G2 650W (also got a EVGA G3 850W)
Monitor - Dell S2716DG (happy to game at 1440p)
KB - Logitech G513
Mouse - Logitech G502 Hero
Speakers - Edifier R1280T
Case - Phantecs Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass

No budget as such but would also like value if there's an upgrade worth doing. I mainly game but also do a bit of work but not too much :)

It took the itch 6 months but I caved in and bought a 5900X and changed the cooler cos the corsair one died. This is my rig at present:

MB - MSI Tomahawk Max B450
CPU - Ryzen 5900X
RAM - Team Group Dark Pro "8 Pack Edn" DDR4 3200 MHz
Cooler - Arctic Liquid Freezer II - 280mm
HD - Corsair Force MP510 Gen 3 NVME M.2 960 GB (games installed on this drive)
HD - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD
GPU - Gigabyte RTX 3070
PSU - EVGA G2 650W (also got a EVGA G3 850W)
Monitor - Dell S2716DG
KB - Logitech G513
Mouse - Logitech G502 Hero
Speakers - Edifier R1280T
Case - Phantecs Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass

Now that I have a 5900X I think it's only right I should change my MB but not sure whether to go B550 or X570. My M2 drive is Gen 3 but if I upgrade to a Gen 4 I could still use them both on a B550 board. Is it also worth changing the RAM to 3600 MHz?

Not really got a budget but not looking for mega high end boards.

The ram you have easy overclocks to 3600/3800mhz so definitely wouldn't bother changing that unless you need more capacity.

Yeah it's a very good board, I'm rocking one with a 5800X + RTX 3080 and it's been solid. I do wish it had a 2nd m.2 slot though but I guess you can always use a PCIe nvme adaptor in the 2nd X16 slot although I guess it'd be limited to 1750mbps but that's still plenty fast.

Do you use PBO/curve optimiser on that board? If so, what settings do you use?

I run a -25 on curve and then drop the PPT 125 TDC 84 EDC 125 a bit as the 5800X likes to pull a lot of power but the extra power only creates heat so with these settings I get better scores than stock with the all core boost above 4.7 which is up from 4.55 at stock but also 7C cooler temps.

Every chip is different though and yours being 12 cores so would likely require different settings.

I also have the 3200/14 8pack ram which I have running at 3800/16, I did have this stable at 3800/14 @1.5v but after getting my 3080 the extra heat in the case made it unstable so I had to drop the CL to 16 which allowed the vdimm to come down to 1.42

Too much lockdown money saved can't believe I used to spend so much on alcohol!
:o I'd rather save it up for something big like a next-gen graphics card, there's very little difference between m.2 and sata in most games and 960 GB is big enough to fit anything that needs it.
