Not a major fan of female vocalists, but I've just got a hold of an album by a DC hardcore-esque band called 1905, who use a female vocalist and a male vocalist to great effect :) Check em out.

Also, whatever band Brody Dalle (sp?) is in, they are alright. Forgotten then name now though, because I don't listen to them much.

Angelica and Sleater-Kinney.

Angelica were a sort of pop indie rock thing... I loved them, no one else seemed to though!

Sleater-Kinney are a great rock band. I understand they used to be much more punky, but recently they're just a good rock band :)

And Brody's in The Distillers, Carzy :)

Aimee Mann is by far my favourite female vocalist, although not fronting a band per se she is awesome.

Also:
Kim Deal (of the Breeders, and also sings on some Pixies tracks)
Visqueen
Blondie
Charlotte Hatherley (of Ash, but also has a solo album out)
Imogen Heap (of Frou Frou, and again does solo stuff)
Allison Goldfrapp
Courtney Love (of Hole - despite being the spawn of satan, I think this list would be incomplete without her)
Emily Haines (of Metric and Broken Social Scene)

/edit: just remembered Geko, can't remember which member of these boards was in that band, but their vocalist was very good

she might well be, but i believe she's the singer in Melissa Auf Der Maur (ex Hole bassist iirc, though)

Yup.

Also, The Duke Spirit (you might like them, I'm not a big fan), and has been mentioned just, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who are brilliant.
