The X800GTO 2 would be better than the standard 6800. The X800 can overclock really well, and should be as good as a X850XT-PE

You can't go wrong with this gfx card "PowerColor ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI" only £10 more then X800GTo2

Its better then 6800/6800GS/X800Gto2 by mile at stock and can be oc-d a bit to X850XT PE speeds and it will get you near 7000 in 3dmark05 with ease.

From what i've seen the best x850xt 3dmark05 score was 64xxx and that was a hand picked one for a review... which was a an exellent clocker...something i doub't you'll get....and that's why i went for a 7800gt...if your willing to spend £162 delivered for an xt...£199 got me a 7800gt. :)

Having had 6800(which unlocked and clocked like a trooper), and a EARLY gto2 which unlocked to 16 pipes and hit 6600k 535-590 in 05. The gto2 wins hands down. The early gto2 were outstanding cards, I also reckon the current batch of 850xt wont be world beaters at oc, and the gto2 that are around at the moment, well make your own mind up, there was only supposed to be a limited quantity. I would also recommend the 7800gt.

sorry but thats rubbish my old ocuk x800xt pe with a 754 athlon 64 3400 clawhammer got 6400 on 3d mark o5 all stock
i would say all x850xt's [witch are faster than the x800's] should hit 7000 with a small overclock

The Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO2 256MB is way better than the 6800.
If you dont mind unlocking (then overclocking) & want to save £10 then go for that.
Otherwise go fo the PowerColor ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB which should be able to be overclocked to PE speeds. Great performing cards for the price either way.
The GTO2 has an iso on OcUk for ease of unlocking too.

Did not use direct link as there are other competitors on there but if you google review of powercolor x850xt you'll find it straight away.

You'll be uber lucky to get that high me thinks :)

I said near, not actual 7000.
@ stock my x850xt gets 63XX oc-d core @ 570 memory @ 600 gets 6700.

So 7000 is not very far off with few tweak and oc.

So I think it is no brainer choosing X800Gto2 or X850XT. But if you really think you need the SM3 then Geforce 6800GS/GT, but personally I'd choose X850XT any day over the Geforce 6800 range and X850GTo2, because I have used all them gfx cards and the best card 4 your money is X850XT.

7k easy! I can hit 7620 with my x800GTO2 with a 4000+ @ 2.6ghz and the card fully unlocked clocked at 640/1270.

7620

Another guy from Guru3d.com has hit almost 9k with one. (phrozin)

One thing to remember though is the GTO2 doesn't come with this performance out of the box. The x850xt or 6800gs would probably be better if you don't know how / don't want to flash a graphics card with a different bios.

You will get good performance and I believe @ stock without any overclock 3dmark05 will give you around the 4500 mark, I may be wrong.

@ 1200x1028 Res you will be able to play most recent games like Cod2, Quake 4 @ very decent quality with few effects turned on.

my 6800GS at 505/1200 gets just over 6k with a 3ghz p4 at stock, with rotten timings on the ram too.

you can probably get more with XTREME FREEZE whatever, but im just stating the stock speeds.
If he can't push extra £12 quids on a decent card, im sure his not willing to take risks by overclocking or modding.
