Antispam letter generator

I dont know the official term so I cant find it on Google, but when you register for a forum you are asked to type the letters present in an image that is displayed.
Its an antispam or anti-autoregistration measure.

Whats it called? I want to add one to my email form, is it easy to do? free?

The particular acronym you're looking for is "CAPTCHA"
