There's no way a PC games manufacturer is going to shoot themselves in the foot (in what's already a shrinking market) cutting off a massive number of customers by making Dx10 only games.
I'm definitely going to buy a new g-card soon but it's whether to do so before G71, not DX10, that is worrying me.

There no new highend games i know of,,coming out in the next 4 weeks or so..(not good ones anyway)
So it might be best to make your geforce 6800gt last another few weeks to see what happens with the XT1900XT/x & the rumored G71 (7900).

I noticed in the benchmark that the 7900 was getting much better scores than the ATI 1900. Possibly 2k or more better than the 1900 in 3dmark05

What is the release dates for the 7900?
Nobody knows (except Nvidia + partners) what the 7900 scores. It's all speculation. Again nobody knows what the release date is either. Maybe March.

I thought the dx10 cards were the real next gen ones being released in the summer, and you wont be able to play dx10 games on dx9 i think, but thats no worry as it will take a long time for those games to be produced, they won't exactly be flooding out. :)

This maybe the first dx10 game for Q4

Well, i'll be waiting for the cards to become available on Tuesday and placing an order. My main pc went down recently and its been hard trying to not jump the gun and go for a 7800 while waiting for the x1900.

I'm not expecting the card to blaze the 1800 (except in a couple of games like Fear) but with any luck the different shader arrengement will help with the next batch of games. That and i expect that new driver releases will boost the fps scores in the next month or 2.

Not sure which card to go for yet, i guess the cost will decide that for me.

as i have said before I am waiting for the dx10 cards this x1800xt 512mb will be ok untill then and possibly longer who knows

You could always ebay it, then again since you've got the 512 version its probably not worth it. I'm going from a 6600GT so it makes a bit more sense :)

I hope this new ati xt1900 card can give more then 3fps then the 7800gtx 512mb in fear..

Might want to try and compare apples to apples :)

The firing squad tests are run with soft shadows disabled. The VR-zone one has it enabled. With SS diabled the x1900xt gets 48fps with 16xHQAF

i love it when ppl say wow look at thoes graphics on the xbox360 and im sitting there thinking gee whats so special about that, i saw it all last year in pcs. ;)

Yeah, but how much did it cost to see those graphics? I am into Pc's as much as anyone and I have an Xbox360 aswell and I have to take my hat off to microsoft for what they have achieved for the money. I mean PGR3 has awesome HDR rendering!

Sorry to be off topic. But I believe the Xbox360 chip is a version of the R580.

am not bothered about any more than 1280x1024... only got a 17" monitor so there is no real need for more.

that is why am really debating getting x1900, i could go for 1800 and an opteron.. or maybe dual core... im not going further than 1280x1024

Just thought I'd point this out, but OCUK has X1800Xt's for £293.

If you stuck at 1280x1024 as having a TFT, then you may as well just go for the cheaper x1800, your hardly gona see a difference at that res, if any, and you'll save a wad a cash to, you'll only see the benefit, and get your moneys worth from 16x12 and above, about £200 extra for a couple of frames maybe at that res is deffo not worth it. :)

Well...

The price difference between that and a X1900XT would pay for approx 55% of X2-3800 or 45% of an x2-4200 (also on offer). My 4200 runs at 2.6hgz 24/7 and will bench at 2.7. So I'm just saying like, you know, worth thinking about.
