File wont delete!!

Hi,

I recently tried to install some software that came with my phone. It didnt install properly so I tried to install and delete most of the files. However there is still a file on the desktop which I cannot move. It doesnt even have a delete option when you right-click it.

How can I get rid of it?

Have you tried booting up in safe mode, finding the problem file and deleting it that way?

Try F8 and then SafeMode Command Prompt Only, as that way you have no explorer running that could prevent the file from being deleted.

What would I have to type in Command Prompt?

I like moveonboot a nice little programme that removes stubbon files the next time you boot the pc its free from here http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html give it a try.

When browsing for the file with that program it doesnt show up as on the desktop. Even though it blatently is!

Anymore ideas?

Download TWEAKUI whcih is mad by Microsoft and comes in the Windows power toys pack from the microsoft website

Go top Start > Run and type tweakui
Go to the desktop + and select the Icons you don't want on your desktop

If you manually type in the path of the file in the command prompt, what does it say?

If you open a command prompt and type in the command to delete the file "del C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\Pesky File.exe", close explorer.exe using Task Manager, then execute the delete command in the command prompt.

Alternatively, could you just hide the file?
