Getting On XBL - IP confirmed, but DNS a no go?

Trying to get le 360 set up on xbox live at uni. Now, im in halls, but apparently the xbox live ports are open...

I tried a direct connection but it wouldnt find an IP. Now im using the xbox through my pc, it finds an IP, but fails at the DNS.

Im using a cross over cable for my xbox to pc, then im using the xbox cable for my pc to internet. Gonna try some different combinations, but its not looking good so far. I really want to try out the old fight night demo.

Any ideas/help is much appreciated. To me, it seems that Uni is blocking some necessary ports... but i havnt done my network course yet...

install windows media connect its at www.xbox.com\pcsetup or summink it seems to add and allow aload of programs to the firewall.

Do u have an ! on the LAN icon in taskbar??

Cheers rich, i downloaded that earlier, but my pc wont authorise my xbox as it says its not there... but ive just been trying some networking knowledge and i think im there

it was zone alarm by the way blocking the xbl access.....
