Does anyone know anything about RDram? All i can find out is that it should be run in matched pairs. Is it old Ram/specialist? I ask because someone has a Dell PC that uses this and wants to add more but i've never heard of it before.

Cheers,
Zeph.

Yes it has to be run in matched pairs. Rdram was a good thing imo nice and fast but its cost was too much (kept high by the company who pattened it) and this is why it went down the pan

Cheers Gary, would a Dell system using this Ram be capable of using another kind like more conventional ddr in its place? I've found a few places still selling it but at prices around £60 per 256mb stick, would be a much cheaper option for him to use ddr if possible.

Cheers,

Nope - DDR and RDRAM are completely different formats

RDRAM has to be installed in matching pairs and all unoccupied slots have to be filled by continuity modules (CRIMMS)

RDRAM had a fair number of shortcomings such as high latencies and its serial access nature (it accessed the first slot first so if you had data on the fourth slot it would read the first three before reaching your data). For this reason I'd put the larger sticks in the primary slots
