using a switch?

I never used 1 for conecting 2 computer together at a none isp location as mini lan party . do i have too re config any isp address or is i just more or less plug and play ? .

A switch won't give out IPs automatically, so you will need to set one for each computer (within the same range). i.e. 192.168.0.1 / 192.168.0.2 / so on

yes, Duke is correct, a switch wont come with a dhcp server built in so you will need to assign ip addresses to each of the pcs. as far as im aware this will in effect set them up as a workgroup.

if you want to share files and folders make sure you enable simple files sharing and you may need to configure any security software on the pcs to allow access
