Motherboard or not?

Hiya all,

My computer suddendly turned it self off and now wont turn back on.

The strange thing is as soon as I put the power cable into the psu, the fan in the psu starts up even though the power button for the PC isnt even switched on

Unfortunately the motherboard does not have a power light so I cant tell if power is actually getting to it. I have tried another PSU but that does the same thing.

I have also unplugged all the extras for example all PCI cards etc etc but still no luck.

My suspicion is that something on the motherboard has gone. Before I go out a buy a new one has anyone got any ideas or tests that I can do?

have a look to see if any capacitors have blown on the mobo... i always get probs like this but only when building a new pc... i normally find ive plugged something in wrong.

you could try resetting the cmos or see if it boots up with just 1 stick of ram in. am no expert but thats what id do
