im Debating wether or not to buy a 300GB HDD. to store downloaded files... i can get a 300GB drive with 16Mb cache for £90 from a local store. but you can get 100 dvd's which is roughly 430GB of storage for about £20??? worth buying a harddrive?

For ease of use, HDU, yes.

For the DVD's remember that they are fixed unless you get DVD-RAM - but this can get expensive. DVD-RW's need to be completely rewritten if you want to add to them etc. The other thing is having to use the DVD's each time you want to open the files.

Best not to ask me about Maxtors. You will not get a positive response.

250GB Hitachi Deskstar.
250GB Seagate 7200.9 (or .8 - I have one of these).

If set on Maxtors, then the Maxline is worth it as the DM10's are pants in my view. Maxlines have the 5 year warranty and ought to be much more reliable.
