OK, first disclaimer - I do not believe the 306 DTurbo is the fastest car in the known universe :D

Anyway, I was approaching a stopped 106 at a set of lights (leading uphill into a national speed limit (60 mph) road. I had no intention of racing, but intended to accelerate a bit harder than normal to overtake him.

As i pulled up alongside (in my 1994 DTurbo, totally standard), I noticed it had been debadged, had non-standard alloys and a non-standard exhaust. I hoped it was going to be a 1.4 or something...

We ended up racing and he beat me quite comforably, but not ridiculously so.

Just wondering what it would have been?

Thanks.

Nothing short of the Bugatti Veyron can beat a 306 DTurbo, and that's only if it has a rolling start. The Thrust SSC has been known, on occasion, to beat the 306 DTurbo on the 1/4 of a light year run.

Yeah, but the DTurbo beats both of those hands down on fuel economy. They don't stand a chance tbh.

off the mark a lot will beat the dturbo, i mean 306's (other than the GTI6-rallye) have a standard 0-60 of >10s. mainly due to their 1200kg girth. Had you raced to 100 though he may not even have got there! Truth is it was most likely a stock 1.6 model. Most small 1.6 engined cars will beat my 1.8 306 and equally i would expect they'd beat the 2l XSi version too.

Kimbo u **** look in2 the screw-mod which will turn ** Dturbo in2 a true hot hatch, ensuring ** car is never beat again. Trust a screw-modded Dturbos can give M3s a hard time!!1

Yeah, but the OP did say it was std, so no screw mod... :D

The 0-60 on the 306DT is about 12s, so any petrol 106 with more than a 1.1 could beat it. From the top of my head it'd have to be a 1.4, an XSi, a Rallye or a GTI.

The 0-60 on the 306DT is about 12s

I got 9.98 out of my housemates on a G-Metre. They arent slow up to about 70. It see's off a lot of cars you might consider as hot hatches. Unfortunately after that the useful power is all gone by 80mph due to the useless rev range.

I'd say 12 sec (or even 9.98) to 60 is pretty slow tbh.
