Looking into a 4 way bank of hard drives (non raid) I noticed you can get 8MB and 16MB hard drives with internal 8MB and 16MB cache. Does it really make a difference? I believe windows does caching itself, so HD cache shouldn't matter so much? 250MB 16MB cache or 400MB 8MB cache drive.

I know back in the day of cached in DOS IDE controllers performance increase was like 1000%, but since Windows 95 took over a lot faster.

As the size of a drive has increased, then the cache size has become more important. However, if the drives are purely for storage, then you wont miss it :)

If they are getting a hammering i.e encoding, photoshop scratch disk, video editing, then go for the higher cache.
