twelve eighty by ten twentyfour.

Right same subject well 'ish.

My Bro in law and i had an argument about the name a few years ago about some video software called 'Xing' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xing)

He said it was pronounced 'zing' and i thought it was 'crossing' any idea guys?

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, and i know its not really monitor based, but the end product does end up on a monitor

If your not interested in how you pronounce it, you should still have a quick read about Xing, its a good bit of history about video on PC's and how it eventually seriously affected the DVD industry.

these are how 90% of people most commonly pronounce:

1680x1050 = sixteen eighty by ten fifty
1600x1200 = sixteen hundred by twelve hundred
1280x1024 = twelve eighty by ten twenty four
1024x768 = ten twenty four by seven sixty eight
800x600 = eight hundred by six hundred
640x480 = six forty by four eighty

I'd say it that way for all of those too, but admit it, you just plucked that 90% "fact" out of thin air, didnt you ;)
