I m looking at a x1600XT for about 130, is this card any good? i read reviews about it being pants, but they also mentioned about the drivers not being developed enuff yet. Is this true and will the newer drivers make a big difference?

thanks :D

It is not a bad card, I have the gecube x1600pro using Catalyst 6.1 drivers on my Biostar tforce 6100 mobo. Works pretty well, paid £105 in c vat and p+p, using 3dmark2005 I get about 3800marks at stock setting. Runs pretty cool and works wel, the XT version has the higher clocks and has better memory bandwidth. Should get you about 4500pts on 3dmark2005, game use is pretty good I have all the eye candy on BF2 at 1024x768 and It looks very nice. The drivers still need to be optimised for this card though.

o i c, so it should still improve rite? and also i dont want to get any of the x800 bcoz its doesnt support direct x 9.0c.

AFAIK all the x800 series do, the x850xt is 145 and has more memory if you're looking at 1600xt 128mb, the x850 is a fair jot faster. They supported DirectX 9b at 9800Pro level, I'm sure they're 9c compatible now.

its a Ledtek 6800 128mb, will that be much better or only at certain games?

It would be a good boost, especially in Opengl (the driver sonly helped for x1800 card iirc)

Could you email me, just that you don't have access to the MM and I have that exact card for sale :)

Here i some info i found online from an etailer (dont think i can state due to rules) but may be helpfull.....

Customer Reviews Of Radeon X1600PRO

amazing
quite impressive. runs UT2004 flawlessly on full settings. great value
Upgraded from xtasy Ti4200. Huge difference. Havent tried to OC, will wait a while

Fast card!!!
Able to Play Doom 3 (high res), Nascar (max res), Call of duty 2 (max res)..
Really suprised at the way this thing handles games... Verty impressive for the price!!!

Fantastic for the money
open GL 2.0, 256mb ram, and 12 pipelines for a great price!
Plays BF2, COD2,HL2,and FEAR smooth.

Great!
This card is the way to go if you are looking for a sub-mid range gaming card. It can play most of the current games on high setting. Pair this with an AMD processor and you'll rip apart HL2. Haven't tried to OC this, but not planning to anyways.

I would steer clear of the x1600 range.

They don't seem to offer much more performance (If at all) than the much older 6600gt.

The 6800GS (assuming pci-e) can be got for a few quid more here on OCUK and would be a MUCH better card.

The X1600XT is faster than the 6600GT (the X1600pro is not).

The HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1600 XT ICEQ Turbo 256MB DDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (RX1600XT-256ICEQT) (GX-051-HT) is a pretty good card & this one will be quiet & cool.

In the same price range you could look at the PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO16 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-055-PC)
This is actually a faster card.
