It depends what you want from the car. The Porsche is as common as muck and although it is a technically wonderful car, it's about as exciting to look at as a Ford Mondeo. People won't look twice if they see the Porsche fly past.

Utter drivel imho...

Why do you think so?
I can see where Scuzi is coming from - a modern 911, whilst certainly easily identified as a Porsche, is hardly a daring or confrontational design. Put the Caymen, the Boxster and any number of 911 variants together and the man on the street will be hard pushed to pick one from the other at a glance.
The Mustang is certainly a more unique and bold design, though of course which you prefer is entirely personal.

Cost & Depreciation
Both cost similar, except one is brand new and one is 6-8 years old....
The Porsche will probably not depreciate much more and when it comes to selling be easy to sell on.
Wheras the Mustang could depreciate lots with it been new and left hand drive, plus selling on could prove difficult due too a very limited customer base and then its left hand drive....

You allready said it yourself really, the porsche is the better car and will cost you less definetly. If this is your main car it has to be the porsche but if you have a little punto or whatever then I guess your being sensible enough and can waste money on something exotic like the Saleen

Between those 2?
The Mustang would win every time, its a stunning looking car, with quite a bit of performance to match.
Lets be BRUTALLY honest here.. unless you track the car, both cars will handle as well as each other on normal roads. At the point the Porsche becomes conclusively better, is the point of you losing your licence.
I do love the way people rave about 'on the limit' handling when in reality on normal roads that limit will never ever be reached

so, in conclusion... mustang, mustang and thrice mustang.

Come on you really have to ask?

Ok so Porsche designs are far from radical but thats what happens when you have have a loyal customer base & a motoring icon to improve on (in the case of the 911).

As for trying to create an analogy between a Porsche and any Mondeo? I really don't think that assertion requires any form of rebuttal.

Finally, in what capacity is this guy speaking for 'people' when making these assertions? Certainly not me so I just wonder who his constituents are?

Totally agree regarding peoples preference when it comes the aesthetics but such sweeping statements just annoy me.

That's quite some live axle!

Lopez are you saying that the rear suspension is not so bad?

Consider this it would be an everyday car driven in snow, rain and dry sunny days how is the Mustang gonna cope with our crap twisty roads. I understand that the Porsche especially a C4 will handle and grip in any weather to an amazing level that the Mustang cannot compete with....
From chatting to people most think the Saleen Mustang should handle similar to that of a basic WRX or BMW 330ci but its nowhere near as good as M3, Porsche handling etc.....
The Mustang does have traction control, but not DSC so I am guessing that traction control is going to do nothing on corners it will only sap power going to the wheels when slip is detected, which aint gonna save you mid-bend if you mess up?

Know absolutely sod-all about either car, but from what you said they are both great cars but the Porsche is technically better. However screw the specs sheets, I'd say Mustang everytime. 911 just looks like another Porsche, the Mustang is unusual and looks frankly awesome :D

Just look at them next to each other - Porsche = Hmmm, Mustang = Wow

Would have to be the Porka for me, although you do appear to get a free George Forman grill stuck on the rear end of that mustang, which could be a bonus.

Haven't looked for a few months, but you might struggle to get an Aero'd C4 for your budget.. and they look so much better with the kit on.. not a fan of the vanilla ones.

Not a fan of the mustang rear, but not a fan of non GT2/3/turbo with all the stick on stuff.

A simple C2 with turbo alloys, or a C4S.

Or a Corvette C5 :) :) :)

Well if my opinion is 'Utter drivel' then IMO your opinion is worth about as much as the contents of my toilet (which I have yet to flush).
On my 15 minute drive to and from work every day I can guarantee I will pass at least 3 911's. Maybe it's because of where I live. They're as common as muck around here and as such don't even get a second glance from me. Most people I've spoken to about 911's agree with me.

I've only ever been a passenger in one but from that experience and from reviews etc, the 911 is a stunning piece of engineering. It's a perfect blend of performance, driveability, reliability and practicality. That's why there's so many of them about. It's because of the huge number of them on the roads that they are bland to look at, unless it's a specialist model as far as I'm concerned it's just another 911.

When I refer to 'people', I'm talking about the people who I've spoken to about such subjects. I'm also making a calculated assumption that a lot of people may have a similar opinion to me and as far as I can see I'm right. I did not make a sweeping statement as you put it. I stated an opinion based upon fact and experience.
If your opinion differs, good for you, but don't accuse me of making sweeping statements and don't refer to my opinions as 'utter drivel'.

There is an advantage to seing so many 911's, they will be easy to service. You could even shop around for the best price maybe. Who would service the Saleen or is the engine and setup so simple its not really a problem

Plenty of specialist American service places around, yes :) Finding a local one could be a trick, but there are many places set up to deal with the Ford V8 & powertrain..

..or you could try your Ford dealership (NB - this is probably not advisable :p :D)

The Mustang is an iconic car that would leave your grandchildren in awe.

The Porsche is not.

The Porsche isnt Iconic? unlike the Mustang its hardly changed its shape since it first rolled off the production line and it still looks modern.

The mustang changed frequently and everyone got bored of it, hence its "re-release".

Here's two pictures of 1998 cars...

you gonna look at it or drive it ?

has to be the 911, if you want something mod wise, go Japanese & dont spend that kind of money on a "looks" car, you will rapidly get bored of it.

yeah 911 are common, theres a good reason why..
