Im pritty sure that the x1800xt is faster. At least im sure it gets a higher 3Dmark 05 score. I think there was a driver update that gave some more performance to the x1800xt but I aint 100% on that cos I have a nvidia card so dont pay that much notice of ATI updates.

Firstly, those benchmark show the X1800XT to be slightly faster.

Secondly, the X1800 and 7800GTX are almost the same speed, the 7800GTX generally winning more benchamrks but by small margins, the X1800 winning with 4Xaa and 16XAF with a bigger margin in some games.

Thirdly, the 7800GTX 512Mb is quite a bit faster than the X1800XT.

Fourthly: the x180XL is a pretty slow card and is over prices considering its performance and the price of the competitors.

I think the argument is that the 'reference' clockpeed of 7800GTX is 430/1200 so many reviewers use these cards when benchmarking, but most manufacturers sell their cards with clockspeeds of up to 490/1300mhz.

The X1800 may be faster than its 6mth older counterpart but the difference is by no means massive.

right, have you owned a x1800xt ? or a 7800gtx ? yeah them benchmarks were fron cats 5.12's very long time ago, 6.2's wipe the floor with em. also from OWNING both of the above cards i can honesltly say the x1800xt is much faster not just a bit, A LOT. in everygame ive played. and i had a bfg 7800gtx oc and i even overclocked the nuts off it and only managed 9,115 ??? now with my x1800 i got well over that in standard trim.. oh not to mention image quality is soooooo much better 2.
also the remark's about the 512 version, the x1800xt flashed to pe keeps up with it and even beats it in some games.
so unless you know what your going on about please dont post your rubbish. :D

same but i went from-

1mb onboard trio :)
4mb matrox mystique
12mb voodoo2
16mb voodoo3
GF3 200ti
9800pro
(X1800XT ordered)

all faster than each other, though the voodoo 2 felt like 3 generations ahead of the matrox

What's wrong with the control panel - CCC is far easier to use now and has few bugs as well as only requiring 4MB RAM since the recent .NET 2.0 updates. OpenGL is not poor, the drivers from 5.12 onwards have massively improved this and though still behind nV, are not behind by much. Louder fan - louder on startup and 100% but in operation, actually quieter. Even Gibbo stated this, as they prebuild systems with both flavours of cards and these were his findings.

Poor OpenGL, you must have been living under a rock, as the OpenGL was fixed in the 5.11's and ATi was faster than Nvidia at OpenGL then, but now Nvidia have gone back in front, but its not by much, IQ is better on ATi, anyone will tell you that, even Gibbo, and if you don't like the CCC (i think its great personally) then you can use either ATi Tray Tools, or an old Control Panel. :)

Also a lot of the GTX users on here who have gone for the x1900's even say the IQ is much better.
