Well, I know it says its better than the 6800gt in the info, but without overclocking, is the 6800gs better than the 6800gt as its only 75mhz more on the core.
Also, if not, how much can the 6800gs be overclocked. thanks

Which news 6800gs model? from all the benchmarks ive seen the 6800GT seems to outperform the GS.
Just did a quick google and the GT seems to perform better in most games, the GS scoring around 4300 in 3dmark 05 stock whereas the GT around 4900 at stock, gt overclocked scores seem to average around 5500-600- whereas the gs around 5000-5500.

My 6800GS does around 5700 marks in '05 @ stock and just shy of 7000 marks when overclocked, i reckon there's still some more in it too :D

I have a XFX 6800GS Extreme Edition XXX - core 485, mem 1100, according to most reviews this is on par or sometimes slightly better than a 6800GT, I think it has more headroom as coolbits detects optimal settings as 525/1170 but have not tested yet.

LOL well you are truly remarkable then, especcially if you've broken 5K with a 6600gt, I just managed that with a 6800nu.

Yeah those scores weren't too bad for a 6600GT, sold it now to a caring new owner ;)

Here's the scores:

Hmm I know these tests measure Graphics power but I believe you CPU must play a deciding factor lol, when comparing them on 05 you score 7808 on the cpu whereas I score 3326 LOL, mines a barton at 2.2ghz - you cpu is soo much more powerfull.

Anyways its nice to see someone buying hardware based on bang for buck instead of just buying the top end stuff that isnt worth the money.

The GTs are quicker at stock than the GSs by about 5% or so as far as i understand. The GSs have been known to overclock realy well though to Ultra speeds (in benchmarks at least) but the GTs do tend to go just that fraction quicker.

The pci-e ones are better when overclocked but it is my understanding that the agp ones are a big let down and nowhere near as good as the 6800GT.
I havent heard of GS that doesn't manage at least 500 on the core yet and the memory usually goes up a fair bit too. Once overclocked then they will eaily pass 6000 in 3dm05, which is pretty good!

Got to agree with that, the mid-range cards mostly get ignored around here but can definitely meet most peoples requirements ;)

Why do marketers market? It is all a bit of a moot point anyway since you can't buy 6800gt's new from most places anyway. From what I can tell there isn't much difference between the two cards, I've got a 6800gt and if I wanted to replace it with something that performed almost identically I'd get the 6800gs.
