Thinking of a change of scenery?

I'm trying to decide what to do with my Impreza. I've got a bit bored of it recently and whilst the weather isn't too hot its spends most of its time in the garage. The image of Imprezas has gone down hill recently and the saturation in the market of Imprezas means that its just not an event to drive the thing anymore.

Only today, me and a friend were mooching over a very nice Escort Cosworth. Now the Escort didn't have as much power as mine, wasn't as practical as mine being 2 door and the interior looks very 80s compared to mine. But it just seemed to ooze presence yet mine is "Just another Impreza"

I don't really need the 4 doors anymore since we have another 4 door family wagon and my daughter is old enough to clamber in the back of a 2 door car.

The depreciation is shocking on Imprezas and even with the mods, I'll be lucky to get £8K more likely £7K. I can add another 1.5K at the most so my budget is going to be about 8-9K.

Not over keen on getting something very high maintenance i.e. EVO5, R32 GTR and tbh my budget won't get a minter of either. Sadly Intergrale EVO2s are out of budget too. :(

Tempted by the recent FR Puma thread but its not my usual COT. Also fancy going back to Pulsar GTIRs with £5K on the car and the rest to make it nearly bulletproof. Also spotted a mad engined 205 with 230HP of turbo power out of an 8v with plenty of leftovers for making it look mint and totally standard ;)

And so to my biggest concern - I don't want to end up with a money pit. My Impreza has been faultless, its being serviced in a few weeks and apart from a leaky driveshaft I'm 99% sure its quite a happy car. My old pulsar really dented my wallet with clutches and transfer boxes etc and although I love 205s I can see it needing one thing after another.

So what to get next? (Got to have some sort of back seat for my daughter)

EDIT - apologies for the ramble, just thinking aloud :)

Over there...
doubt you'll get one for 9k, but a Celica TSport is great fun, and not too common to boot. Bullet proof as its a toyota, but not as quick as the others you're mentioning (but the feel of speed is impressive!)

Obviously i'm very biased having just bought one :D

get a 2 door STi... you know it makes sense ;)

I have thought about this. I drove a V4 Type R just before christmas and although it was quite cool being 2 door, same colour as mine (Sonic Blue) and it also had 22B rear wing and front bumper, I was disappointed with the performance. Perhaps it needed mapping or something but it just didn't feel any faster than mine which it really should have being an STI and having much lower ratios. Although the rarity of the 2 doors does appeal.

No to an E36 M3, although an E30 would be nice.

I've been in an RX7 a few years ago and all I can remember is feeling clostrophobic (sp) inside. Mad looking thing but coupe style cars aren't really my thing - I'm more your rally car-esque person. Having said that those Carlos Sainz Celicas look cool - especially with the Castrol stickers.

Sierra RS cosworth? Quite a few very decent examples within your budget. The Sapphire RS cosworths (both 4wd and 2wd) can be had for around the £6k mark, leaving you with a bit to play with.

Tried looking at Sapphire Cosworths before buying the Impreza but I didn't really like the look of it.

Thinking of going to have another look at the 2 door Impreza near me. Might stay with Subaru and just get something rarer thats worth holding on to for long term (P1 or similar).

Since cosworths have gone down in price over the years I'd say they get a similar rep as the Impreza. Both cars you can get reasonable examples for fairly cheaply and thus the boy racer types are eating them up. If I were you I'd just stop caring what others think and enjoy your AWD mad waggon.
