Right, this is my currrent spec;

ASRock 939 Dual-SataII
1.5GB Geil Value Ram (3x512mb)
Opteron 146 W/ arctic cooler pro @ 2.5Ghz
Sapphire X1900XT
Tagan 530W easycon
X-Fi Xtreme Music
80GB Seagate/200GB Seagate
2x DVD-RW's

I was thinking about getting 2x1GB sticks to replace what i have, would it make that much of a difference or would another 512mb stick do? i've read it would do wonders for overclocking the 146 with 2? also i have an 6800 AGP (fully unlockable) & along with the RAM - how much would they be worth about?

Was thinking of spending up to £150 (thats including whatever i get for the ram/card) on another part to finish the system off.

Thanks

Definitely get rid of your current ram setup and go for 2x1gb (dual channel Kit). One of these:

MY-008-GS G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS)
£129.95 £129.95

MY-057-OC OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC)
£134.95 £134.95

IMO get the OCZ as it's on offer at present and it's excellent for clocking.

As far as selling your gfx card, what type is it? 6800le, nu, gt or ultra etc. That will amke a big difference to the price.

its a 6800nu with an arctic cooler as standard, this exact one in fact: http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/147/

i was initially going to save it for when i eventually do a media center pc but realised i already have a 9800SE hiding somewhere so flogging it instead.

Wont be getting the ram till payday as iv kinda already spent most of last months pay on the XT/20" WS :-\ Is the OCZ ram still good value even at full price? (well, its only a fiver difference).

I was going to sell my ram for about £60/70 till i realised just how cheap it is since i bought it, my 1gb kit was £130 just a year ago now its half price!

As a rough guess you will probably be able to get ~£15 for a single stick of 512mb Ram and maybe £60 for the graphics card based on prices new now etc.

I'd think 2gb Ram is probably about the best upgrade you could make for the money as the rest of your PC is pretty good.

6800nu probably around £60-80ish

1gb Ram kit probably about £30-50ish

The OCZ ram is one of the best available especially if you want to clock it. It has very tight timings 2-3-2-5.

forgot about this till today. managed to sell 1GB of what i have @ work for £45, no luck with the card yet though (cant access members market yet, anybody wanna buy?? :p ).

Also just wondering, the OCZ ram isnt on offer now but is it really worth the the £/performance difference to go from 3x512 > 2x1gb?

wanting to clock the opty to around 2.6ish to make the most of the x1900, will it still be cpu limited at this speed?

lots of question i know but im still a bit new to this overclocking.

cheers!
