Been playing with my Sigma 100-300. I've found a way to shoot the finches on my feeders pretty close up without them freaking out too much.

These were some of the best.

Thanks for the comments

I achived the pics, (none of which are cropped at all btw) by creating an outside 'studio'. I live in a 1st floor flat and have managed to attract the birds by attaching feeders to a drainpipe outside my window. I've prevously posted attempts at shooting the birds through the window but this was the first time I shot with the window open:

One more I like, this took some work though as it was from the first batch that I ruined by not noticing that I had left my camera set with -1 exposure :rolleyes:

As requested a shot of the setup i've got. I usually have a motion sensing webcam setup in the window to capture all the action throughout the day. Not only does this create some great videos but gives me an idea of what visits when and the birds behaviour. I'd share the videos if I had any method of doing so.

The feeders are suspended from right angle shelf brackets.
