XP Blue screen of death!!!

Got a Tiny PC with a MSI MS6385 Mobo to repair for a friend. Apparently all the buttons on windows commands and anti-virus software dissapeared, so friend ran Norton AV from disc to see if it was a virus and apparently there was. Now I've got it and it only gets as far as the loading Windows XP black screen and restarts (blue screen of death flicks up for a millsecond but not enough time to see an error message). My friend thinks it's a virus issue, seems to me it's memory or graphics playing up. What do you think? Cheers.
