oh man!!!
ive just realsied the best tip of all!

okay,
click on CREATE SERVER
chosse your map,
set the cash to $16000
untick all the bots waepons options
set 'bots to join CT' ( if you want to be on T)
this means they only have knives !
egt what ever gun you want and jsut shoot the livin day lights out of them... its REALLY good for aim practice

theres a lot of console entries that are useful too for this
( i dont have css anymore sure to a css adiction :p so ill try and remember best i can)

mp_limitmap 10 ( sets 10 players to joint he game, they should join the other team)

mp_autobalance 0 ( turns auto balance off )
if set up correct yuo can ahve 10 bots with knoves against you and its the best practicve you can get IMO for raw aiming, then give them pistols and see how you do !

Rick

also if soem one will giev you soem deathmatch server IPs theyre great too for gettign your skill up ! no pressure... just shoot !

much better to go on some aimmaps servers, practice taking a whole side out by yourself, lotsa fun :p

i would try playing one of those aim_maps, maybe a custom one somewhere you can download, they give u a lot of practice from a distance especially with the rifles...then the close range spraying becomes easier...

i tend not to buy armour when short of cash, if you know you're gonna beat them in a 1v1 situation, then there is no need for armour, as they probably wouldn't have touched you or if you know you are going to get the headshot... this is the way i play anyway, if you die then at least you have more money to buy something decent next round.

Next to the ketchup...
Sound plays a very important part of CSS. If you want to get really good its worth investing in a decent set of headphones. I was on a pair of rubbish and cheap headphones form a local computer store, then i purchased a very nice pair of plantronics and am glad I did. Soon as I started playing with the plantronics i found i could actually hear when people were nearby and could tell where they were, score started to get better and better straight away.

There are a few pap guns in CSs but most of them can be just as effective as the next u just need to practice with them and see how the recoil works and where to aim with them. For example, you can run into a corridor with and M4 and spray like mad or take your time and aim and get a few kills, or you could just run in with a tmp and spray like mad and get just as many if not more kills.

When i first started playing I was not shall we say one of the most skilled players, but I found a decent public to play on and met some very good players, played with them a lot and got better by watching them play.

If you want some decent servers to play have a look for some of the AmmoBox ones, gord and AndyT have the TOcUK one in the sig I beleive.

Edit: If in doubt, SPRAY!!

hehehehehe some very "pr0" people in this thread ... if u were any good at ravenshield then css should be a walk in the park

run around aimed for the head.. crouch and fire in short bursts (2-3 bullets) for mid to long range

dont be afraid to fall back if u need to

follow your teammates, even if they are complete rambos u will always do better trying to play as a team

learning the map is a lot more important than learning how to aim, if you die before even realising where ** opponent is then being able to shoot good aint goin to help u

people who complain about the awp are just too dumb to kill whoever uses it.. a smoke and a couple of flashes and u can knife any awpers

watch out for anyone with an autosniper though, they are godlike and should not be used due to being waaay too good

Talk of aim is crap - how hard is it to point a crosshair at someones head? The hard part is doing it faster than your opponent does, But you can give yourself a head start in this by -

Knowing the map - hence been able to anticipate likely enemy encounters, knowing good cover/choke points. You'll also get to know where a head is likely to pop up.
Good headphones - you can hear enemy moving around (if your familiar with map - you'll know where they are - hence have initiative).
Walking at key times to listen and cover your own movement.

The first shot with any weapon even the glock is generally accurate - when standing still. Learn how weapon recoil affects accuracy (stand by a wall, fire a burst and look at the holes), if you need to spray - lower your gun to componsate after your first few shots. Learn weapon damage - a good percentage of the weapons take 2 headshots to kill - even some rifles. Try to specialise and learn how a weapon works before moving on to another - rifles work well in most situations, SMGS are great for rushes and close up. A shotty don't work well for covering long A, try the AWP (aside from what some beginners say - there is an art to using this weapon well).
Use nades cleverly - its suprising how many people turn away when a smoke is thrown - thinking its a flash - you can happily walk round the corner and blast em while they are looking at the wall.
Experienced players will wait in the tried and tested places on the map in defence and expect to encounter you in those areas when playing offence. Sometimes a slightly unauthodox spot can work wonders.

Get a config set up
Sort your crosshair out
Mouse sensitivity
Weapon/nade shortcuts
buy scripts etc etc.

Most of what has been said I can agree with, but the main one I would like you to consider is playing with a good attitude, honour. It really counts on any online game and makes the experience that much better for all concerned...

Reduce your mouse sensitivity gradually from the in game default. Do this over a few weeks of play and get used to gliding the crosshairs across the screen - left - right at around head/sholders height. Try not to use the mouse to aim (jerking it to the target) when you see an opponent, as you should be straffing around the corners and they will fall into your line of fire naturaly. After a while the sight lines will fall into place as you move around the map. It takes me the full mouse mats surface to spin 180 in game now and it will steady your aim a lot more.

Learn the maps, learn the maps, learn the path most people will take and then learn to be quirky sometimes :)

oh... and hit "TAB" every now and then to see if your last man standing (just to add to the pressure :p )

Perhaps challenge them to Knife duel for some fun? (remember that right click does more damage with a knife even though the animation is the same) Can't believe I just learnt that also

You sure about that? I did pretty well with it.

yup, a nub wont nail everyone with it, a good awper however will likely not die at all on a public and take out everyone they see. which is usally a good 3-4 players more per round than mr avg.

you got the aiming part spot on, more letting them come into you xhair than you aiming the xhair towards them, although you should still be doing that abit. you should have sensitivity so you can do ~360 degree turns, 180 is not quite enough especially for close up fights.

I remember reading that Fatality takes 2 full passes to turn 180 and look where it gets him :p

Also think that Sound is a huge part if you play seriously, but last night I played with sound off and my music blaring away and had a fantastic game on a 6 v 6 server. Top scored at 32 - 4 in office which was just laughable as I am not that good. It was just one of those games wher the line of sight was perfect and people kept wanting to jump in front of me :D

I told the other players I had no sound on and they would not believe it at all.
Good atmosphere on the server though, Got called out for a knife and pistol battle 1 v 1 while the rest of the team watched (great fun) If only Steam's favourites worked so I could find the IP again....

or get a m4/ak and spray

spray for the winneh!!!!!!

man i hate source

Use the M4 if you are CT or the AK47 if you are T. These are the two primary / popular weapons in use and probably the best.

Learn to buy weapons without a mouse, I know for my usual setup I have to press:

B43 B82 B83 B83 B84 B85 , , , ...

Or something along those lines, that takes me about 2 seconds to get fully equipped.

shotty if under rated - aim fo the head, pop out of a door way, fire, pop in, once the guy is dead quick check to make shure theres no enemy - reload, rememeber you can fire during reloading so your ok there

glock is a great close up gun :)
