Just set up my new Asus AN32 SLI deluxe machine and the pc speaker channel in windows is chucking out annoying static in windows. Not a problem originally because I just muted it in the volume control however I got sick of the tacky ASUS sound program and changed to the Nforce ones.

On doing this it un muted the pc speaker channel and has taken it away from the windows volume control and you can't add it back in to mute it.

Where would i look to find the registry key that I could perhaps change somehow to mute the offending sound channel?

Thanks

I've done that, theres obviously some kind of earthing problem because it made it a lot better but there is still a buzz.

The pc speaker channel in windows is the one that plays any pc speaker interrupt sounds etc throught your main speakers rather than the case one.

try muting any channels that you aren't using. e.g. Aux, Mic, Line in.... etc

I had this problem and that solved it..

EDIT: Re-read your post again... sorry didn't see the bit about trying to mute it already.
