bit of advice re PSU smoking n blowing !

ok, not sure if i can post here, sold a server on ebay,

sent the item in the cases retail boxed packed well, arrived there in good condition,

He says he plugged keyboard n monitor in switched on all smoke come out psu and blow,

Ive never heard of this ever, Id beeen using the server fine for a couple months,

what could have been cause, As i need to advise the courier of this

Yes I've built them from the days of the 386 / 486's (even 8086's) and seen
PSU's go pop
from shorts, even the good old days before they made the Hard Drive cables
idiot proof (lol), from switching on at the mains to blow to switching off
again
(less time than it takes to reach two feet) the PSU gave off loads of smoke
(wasn't like a 110v / 240v mismatch either) was more of an effect like you
would have got pouring a glass of water over the television.

Seems a rather odd description

not sure if DHL the courier would pay out or not ???

Yes HP bought out Compaq thats where they get there modern day stability from, anyhow i would imagine you could claim for it being damaged upon delivery if you insured it that is.

From the system spec i wouldnt be supprised if the Psu had gone as its quite old, the journey could have knocked it arround enough to finish the job.

Ps: The buyer sounds old and very random.
