I bought a Smart Card reader . .

Just to mess about with really. Is there any decent software I can use with it (Gemplus 430) to view the contents of various cards and edit them etc?

Shouldn't it just register as a disk drive and let you explore using My Computer? I thought they all did?

mine certainly did, as it just plugged into a USB header and came up in My Computer as half a dozen other drive letters. Just insert a card and open it, edit etc, If your using XP shouldnt think it would need a driver

It might detect it but can't wrte to it because it isn't formatted, etc.

You can format/partition and assign a drive letter to it in disk manager (Right click MY Computer > Manage > LEft hand pane, Disk Management) and look at the drives there.

I think the OP is talking about a card reader as in mag stripe cards, like sky cards, credit cards etc, not Compact Flash and MMC and the like.
