Any use of smack-talk, which is defined by me pretty much as DJ_Jestar defined it, is unacceptable in my eyes. Trying to bait someone to come and fight you is pretty low-form, unless you do it in a role-play fashion.

It's the role playing that is so open to interpretation though really, smacking in a normal moronic knuckle dragging fashion just makes people look like idiots, doing it in such a way that baits ...but at the same time shows a degree of thought and intelligence is much better, and I wouldn't class that as smack talk.

It's all in the sentence construction, the words used and the way they are delivered. Use of bad language and typical Eve-lingo, such as 'noob' and 'carebear' or acronyms such as 'OMG' and 'WTF' really makes people look like complete fools in my book and is just blatant smack-talk. Where as delivering Minmatar specific insults, or Amarr insults in proper English, or whatever language you speak is really role-play not smack, in my opinion.

I think this is a very grey area really, you have to be careful with it and most people in my experience, have no idea, they forget the role-play part entirely and that then results in all the atmosphear disapearing and you start to forget it's a game and treat it more like a sport. And at this point it all starts to become really silly and juvenile and thats when I switch off and walk off usually

I both love and hate Eve, I really enjoy the game, and I love the community I am part of but at the same time there is a culture in Eve, that 'noob' and 'carebear' and 'adapt or die' culture that I really don't like, the self righteous egomaniacal bunch who seem to think most people play purely for their amusement. I don't need to go into detail in this regard I am sure, you just have to spend some time reading the Eve-O forums and these people make themselves glaringly obvious. Most of them seem to be fairly intelligent individuals though, and many of them are what I would call, some of the best Eve players around...but so many seem to have this almost incredible attitude problem, it's quite amusing in many respects I guess ...makes me wonder what they'd be like if I met them in the pub

edit: Not going to defend the the "omg you nub you suczorz" smack as I agree with you there.

Try sitting in an enemies system day after day with them having equal numbers to you in system and in the area yet they do nothing but sit in safespots all day, smacking them for not fighting does 2 things:

a) puts a huge dent in moral after all you are sat in YOUR system with an equal number in a safe spot while the enemy roams freely stopping you from doing what you want and they are laughing at you in local at the same time.

b)dents peoples pride so much they actual come out and fight for the systems they claim.

To be honest I don't think roleplay needs to be defined as you put it, roleplay is pretending to be something you are not in your normal life not being an Amarr slaver or a Caldari entrepreneur.

Lets take ATUK for example we specifically roleplay being the bad boys of eve, huge egos power hungry etc but jump on our teamspeak and have a chat with us and we are nice guys.

Same goes for BoB the vocal ones act with bravado, as egotistical maniacs yet jump on to TS with them and its the same situation nice guys who like to have fun.

I hate that sort of stereotyping oh he is an ass in game I bet he is a real (insert description here eg arrogant, immature etc) in real life to.

I understand what you are saying, I have plenty of experience of how frustrating it can be when the enemy just wont come and fight, I'll have a moan about it on TS and grumble a bit, but I will not smack the enemy, or say much if anything in local, anyone in a gang I am in command of that does will be warned and ejected from it if they continue.

Thought I'd remove my own Essay :p ...no one cares anyway

Moeks ya carebear.

;).

you'll regret saying that when I deep fry that Omen of yours :p

hehe, I finished HAC 5 a couple of weeks ago and got myself a 5% damage implant, on a typical 3 HSII setup on my zealot I'm getting a damage mod of over 9 now on heavy pulse & beam II's ...bascially all I can do now to fully optimise myself is train surgical strike 5 which I've been putting off close to forever. I don't consider training medium pulse and beam specialisation 5 remotely worth it, 2% damage on 1 type of gun for 20 odd days training, no thanks. Already using a Centus A-Type armour repairer on my pulse zealot, seriously considering a low-grade slave implant set now too ...which would be a nice addition :D

For NPC'ing?

I'd go with something like:
5x 150mm rails
10mn Afterburner, Webifier, Cap Recharger
Medium armor rep, 800mm plate, 2x hardener depending on what you're fighting and a cap relay.

I'm no Thorax specialist and haven't flown one in a long time but I'd imagine that'll fit easily with low SP. Should work great until level 3 missions.
