I've got a potential buyer for Dave asking me how much it would be to ship the engine to him. Not a clue!

How on earth would i go about sending something of 120kg to another country? (don't think royal mail will be much help)

Cheers

Yep the standard max that people like UPS, Fedex etc will do is 70kg. You may need to have this done by freight....

But try parcel2go.com - they have links with some US couriers, but you'll need to have a bespoke quote from their international department before you can get prices. So, it's form filling time!

You'd have to either stick it on a pallet or in a crate. If you live near an airport you may get one of the lesser known freight companies to take the job on for you. Might be worth giving them a visit or a call.

It isn't going to be cheap though.

Say that again, what is Dave actualy worth?

I doubt the bidding will go over £100, but these old engines are worth their weight in gold in the States after some nasty emmisions law nearly banned newer engines, the old Listers get 'grandfathered' in.

Eeep, 120kg. I tried ordering something off a US site the other day and the postage was about $35 or something :(

It'd probably be cheaper flying there yourself

Clearly the answer here is to buy a pair of seats on a flight to where you're going. Dress up the engine like a great big woman; mumu, large hat, plenty of blue makeup. No one will dare ask questions to a man flying 'cross the Atlantic seated next to such a hulk.

Pick up the Yellow Pages, look for "Freight Forwarders". Phone around.

Most do a "pallet cube" (often 1m x 1m x 1m) which is basically a wooden pallet around which they put a heavy duty cardboard.

Cost? I'm not sure about the US but would suspect around £150 shipping plus delivery (to the address in the US) and collection from you (if you can't deliver to their warehouse). Shipping is via sea freight, probably around 6-8 weeks.

Buy an ICBM, swap the warhead for your parcel, there super accurate and everything :)

Though shipping is probably the better option, DHL will be able to help you.
