Looking at getting a reasonably powerful motor for around £15,000 and am mostly considering one that is very reliable and holds its money well and is powerful and economical.

It also has to be a 4 seater convertible - but this it very difficult to get for this money, so I could live with a 2 seater. I would prefer to keep the car as its original spec, so would not consider say an MX5 with a turbo fitted.

The only motor I can think of like this would be a 4 year old S2000.....(just read the other post - and have driven one before - a fantastic motor) Or do you have any other Ideas ?

I spy with my little eye an Integra Type-R seat, what an odd thing to do :p (Both seats I could understand, maybe!).

As for the original question, £15k must get you a performance 3 series cab, just a matter of how old it will be :)

£15k is the bottom end of the boxster market (mostly 2.5's), for the time being you'll get a better S2000 for the same money.

right, you need to make your mind up on either a 4 seater or a 2.

2 seaters give you plenty of option in sporty smaller cars.
4 seats = a saloon/coupe based car with the roof chopped off - BMW E46 / Audi A4 / Saab etc. there are mid sized cabs, but tbh, i wouldnt want a megane / 206 / ka or similar ;]

My mate has an s2000 and he really rated my (now ex :() M3, the oodles of linear torque from the NA engine makes for a far more grunty drive than the rev happy s2000 which is slightly more nimble.

The M3 will out brake the s2000 in stock form as well, even though she is slightly portly ;)

RX8 is 4 seater just not convertable, similar BHP, better handeling higher revving. And you can get them for 15k now as long as you dont mind 35k ish miles on the clock (also get a engine that sounds like a naughty word :p selling point imo!)

*trots out his RX8 flag*
