Hello all!
i have 4 150gig raptors and 2 500gig sata 1 drives, crazy as it may sound, i need more space! (Mainly downloads, lots of movie work and the good old 1gig images)
I am unsure if sata 2 will work with the rest of my drives?
I have a DFI Expert.
I sata 2 backwards compatible?

SATAII are default SATA when you buy them, you need to use a utility to set them to SATAII sot hey work on any mobo with SATA ports.

After doing that you can only use the drives on a mobo that can use SATAII drives so if your boot drive fails you cannot connect the drives to another computer that doesn't have SATAII

Yes, I had to use a bootable CD with a utility on it to set my Hitachi drives to SATAII
However Dutch Guy, this only applies to the Hitachi's. However all drive manufacturers other than Hitachi will have a jumper which you can set to force 150MB/s external transfer rate. Either way, the drive will work fine. See my sticky for more info (top of HDU forum).

is there a utility available for free, which tells you all the info you need about your hdds.

A bit like CPUZ for cpus.
