Hey,

Ive got a Dell Inspiron 6000, and i need to format & reinstall XP on it, does anyone know if this is possible to do without a windows CD? I see there is a hidden 3gb partition on the HDD does it have some kind of Ghost recovery software on it?

Any ideas on the best method to do this?

Thanks

The HD will contain a hidden partition that basically contains an image of the factory OS installation (with all the bloat).

To restore it, you have to press an "F" key (not sure which one) when booting up to begin the restoration process. Look on the Dell site to find out which key.

Unless you ordered an original XP CD at the same time as the laptop (£50 extra I think) then your stuffed.

You'll have to buy a Windows XP Home/Pro OEM/Retail from a shop.

when you boot up just after the dell logo can you see a blue bar at the top?

if so , u can restore xp to how it was when it was shipped with the eula screen visible etc.

i think its control and f11 when u see the small blue bar at the top.

the blue bar has www.dell.com on it, and it is control and f11, will bring up the dell restore ghost partition.
