Well mainly i have one thought and its..

NOOOOOOoooooooooooooo!

They are talking about cross platform support. People with PCs playing people with Consoles online. Its ridiculous, i know it may sound great in business terms, but i really feel one of the best things about the xbox and console gaming is the fair level people have... now they will just turn it into people with mice and keyboards owning the console players at FPS and vice versa for racing games.. even though the pc user can use their 360 controller if they want for that too...

The conference can be found here.

your not forced to use the console for the FPS games, and some people may be more comfortable using a controller

Undoubtedly some may prefer the controller, but nonetheless the mouse is a precision tool compared to the sticks on a controller. What about people who cannot afford to have both PC and console as an option, as it sounds Vista will be an expensive commodity.

Gotta say, that is a perfectly valid point, and I'm 100% behind you on how unfair it can be.

But look at the bigger picture, the dashboard integration (as the screenshots have proved) will show what platform the player is using.

So if you see someone playing on a Computer, and you're on the console, then don't play them!

IF the dashboard integration didn't have this feature, then it's Russian roulette, you're playing an uber player, or a PC user.

But now you can see your foe, it's up to you as to what you do.

there will almost def be options such as Console only players, or PC only players aswell

Its the only way i can see them still be able to integrate the systems without causing uproar.

As long as it gives the option to filter the games to include 360 owners only or both then I'm not fussed.

Bound to be hacked at a later date so PC owners status will appear as a 360.

Guys it could be used in CO-OP situations on single player levels, dont just constantly think of deathmatches.

PC-X360 cross development is a good thing, more games for both platforms, you choose who you play with, dont like em, dont play em.

Good point, my natural competitive nature eluded this from me. Would be very cool and expand games quite a lot considering user numbers. Especially in games like halo, give the controller guy the buggy control and stick the mouse dude on the gun.. :p fun fun fun!

Have microsoft said if they will be supporting keyboard/mice at all?

I still havent really got into Ghost Recon purely beacuse I hate playing FPS with a controller. If they want cross platform games to take off level the playing field so that both can choose using an Xbox controller or keyboard/mice. PC users will be able to tweak settings and run at higher res. but the PC is always going to have more configuration options anyway.

With cross platform games, if you want to use a keyboard and mouse, buy the PC version. GRAW is available for the PC so why don't you buy that? The 360 version is 3rd person and designed for the 360 controller, not a keyboard/mouse.

I want to see how MS do this.

Personally I'd like to see:

1. 360 Games that can be played online against 360 and Vista users to have a filter in the online game search so you can play against 360 users only, PC users only or both.

2. No Keyboard and mouse support for 360 games.

What I love about Live is everyone is on a level playing field. Same hardware and same control device. Granted, people might be using better quality, higher clarity TV's, but at least you won't have people with custom config files, custom key binds that automatically makes you switch to the pistol after firing a sniper round or every one in the game with different netcode rates.

Allowing a keyboard and mouse would totally ruin it for people like me.

I've come from 8 years gaming on the PC to the 360. I hated the controller but put in the practice and effort and now I enjoy it. Played a PC game for the first time in ages with the keyboard/mouse and hated it! I've got so use to the controller now.

Why should my (and other people in the same position as me) online gaming experience be ruined because somebody who's so used to a keyboard/mouse combo can't be bothered to learn how to play with a controller?

won't happen for a long time, i would even say its just a pipe dream by Bill Gates. Nothing will happen until a PC can except the same code as the 360 and vice versa game wise and configeration wise, this is why we have consoles and pc's and different formats.

PC and Console gamers have been playing happily for years, now we even have 2 consoles and PC gamers all playing happily alongside each other FFXI.

The only games i can really see this limiting is shooters, racing games etc i think will be fine.
My biggest concern is live's performance getting ruined by porn surfing kids who' have PCs riddled with prwn causing outages in live or major lag all the time.

But as said before i doubt this will happen for at least a couple of years. They need to get live to the way they really want it on the console first, i mean its good, but there are still quite a few refinements that can be made, dont want an good version on console and an ok on PC i want Great on console then work on the PC, get it perfect, they are almost there, hope they dont lose sight

cross platform gaming has been around for a long time, amiga & st there were a few games that had the facility, i remember it was mentioned in one of my old megadrive mags that the crosslinking between the megadrive and amiga was a possibilty can remember the game that was to use it think it was a racing game but as far as i remember it never happened but was technical possible

imo all that really needs to be done is the sending of info relating to position etc not the need to run the exact same code.

though imo while cross platform gaming is good in that it allows more games / gamers to play together the biggest putt off would be the ability of pc gamers to run custom cfgs and in the exreme hacks, injected code etc, i know there are really good players about but the paronia would drive me crazy esp if i were on a console.

Dude, did you even watch the conference?

They have it, they can accept challenges over a connection from xbox to PC... it was done... not a pipe dream... Vista function already implemented!
