I don't know if I'm just going through an odd phase at the moment, but I really can't be bothered with work.

It's not that I hate my job or that I am underpaid, far from it. I just really would rather be doing something else other than going to work. I'd rather spend my day's enjoying myself instead of counting down the days until the weekend.

I've recently been having problems with Anxiety and am on Medication to help keep it at bay, but since then I've felt this way. I'm not depressed I don't think, I'd just much rather be at home playing on the PC or reading a book than going to work. :p

Perhaps I've just got lazy...

Retire.

Or get a wife, then you'll NEVER want to be at home.

A man with a solution \o/

But on a more serious note, if you're not hating your job, yet you cannot be bothered to go inthat much, it kinda sounds like the passion for the job (if you had any) has kinda died, so either find something new to do, or.... hell leave the country and go some place which has a nicer climate \o/

Theres not many people who wouldnt rather be doing something else other than working, but its just one of those things you have to do..........until you win the lottery.

Tbh, to me, currently, the prospect of having a decent job is a lot more appealing than getting a degree, sadly I need a degree to get a decent job ¬_¬ So it seems that I kinda have to stick it out :(

The pills do that bro. I'm coming off anti depressant on tuesday (or rather seeing my GP who's weening me off them). Been taking them in quite a high dosage for about 18 months. Not to turn this into a medical thread but certain anti depressants make anxiety worse (when mixed with certain people), and most of them take away any major lows and highs (such as depression and gratification at work) and just leave the middle bit. Which is often you left thinking "This is ok, i don't dislike how i feel. But i think i might rather be doing somethign else". Or at least has been my almost uni-ending experience with them.

Feel exactly the same, it's things that are happening outside of work that are causing it for me though.

Having stuff on my mind and worries about things outside of work makes it a real effort to concentrate. All your mental energy is taken up with your thoughs so you just can't be bothered with work. I work on my own most of the time so I have a lot of time to think.

I find you really have to switch off thinking too much about intrests / girlfriend / weekend / things I would rather be doing etc. or it just drives you mad.

Hope this helps

Yup, I have the same feeling every morning at 7:30 lol.

But fear not, once my mastermind money making plan pays off I won't have to go.

I would recommend going self employed.

This is why...

End up doing exactly what you want.
If you work hard you are rewarded.
If you don't feel like working then you don't have to.
Nobody tells you what to do.
Very rewarding when you achieve a certain goal/target knowing you were wholey responsible.

I have onl ever worked for a company part-time. Never full time for someone else. After being self employed for 6months now I don't think I could go and work for someone else. Slogging through the daily grind.

Winning the lottery isn't that great a plan! Playing once a week would take (statistically) about 250,000 years to win. Maybe 275,000, not too sure.

Anxiety for what?

Playing on the PC or reading a book isn't very social... at least at work you have to talk to people

Emetophobia, the fear of Vomit/Vomiting and all related things.

Without turning into a medical thread, it lead to me not eating at all for about a week in December 2005. That's when I went on the Meds. Things are better and I don't have "issues" with food anymore, but being on the drugs has brought out Panic Attacks, which I didn't have before. Although I can cope with the panic attacks, they do make work quite difficult some days. These Panic Attacks happen much less while I'm at home. I have tried weening myself off the Meds, but then my eating started to go down hill again. I live at home with my Mum and my Partner so I'm not too bothered with the social aspect, that's what i have World of Warcraft for (joke).

Anyway...

I would LOVE to be self employed...but what to do? The bottom seems to have fallen out of Web Design to a certain degree. I suck at trading on fleabay so that's not an option. I've been tempted to ask work if I can work part-time, then spend the other days working from home, trouble is, they'll want to quantify all that I do....which will probably be a lot of World of Warcraft and very little else.

This aint a medical thread, its a psychology one and as far as I've seen they let psychology threads slide here...

You should be worried about the social aspect... you sound like a solitary person so I'd imagine that socialising is quite important to you. Also, quality socialisiing is a very important way of keeping check of any psychological issues such as anxiety.

You should see a psychotherapist if you have the cash, anxieties like this can often be the result of other issues and while medication may dull the symptoms they dont neccessarily address the cause...

Anyway...

There are many ways of becoming self-employed but you sound like the sort of person who it may not neccessarily suit. Why not try advertising your services as a freelance web designer or repairing computers on the side?
