worst thing about these 'people' is that if they can't nick the whole lot ( bike/car/whatever ) they will take it upon themselves to render it useless to the owner.

total scum tbh. bad luck mate

I've done so much work on my bike that if it was nicked now I'd have to join a monastery or something.
Gutted for ya' mate.

tell you a funny story. almost a year ago i was workin at sports world 6am - (whatever) shifts. there was a bike chained up to some railing at the side of the road, a saracen i think. first day i saw it, it was fine, 2nd day in the morning it had no wheel, next day it had no seat. every day something would go missing. after a week there was nothing there and the railing it was chained to had been bent, twisted and even cut! the lock it had must have been hard as nails

its totally stupid the amount of chain/metal locks you have to carry around with you nowadays just to stop theives...

for example, there is front wheel lock, frame lock, remove the saddle, evidently back wheel lock now. and even if you're going to use 1 lock for all its gotta be a lot of chain/cable to lock that amount up!

i was thinking about buying a specialised hard rock next year as i'll be living about 35/40 minutes from uni, but i'm really considering just walking because of theives these days :(

Long ago I had my eye on a bike that was locked to a lamp post.
Each day I had to walk past it. Lovely bike, everything was quick lock: i.e; saddle, wheels. Think it was a Diamond Back - good make about 10 years ago.
The lock was really rubbish. This went on for about 2 weeks until I finally decided "It had to be mine". Yet the very next day it had gone!
I'm so glad I didn't nick it. I've had 2 bikes stolen from me over the years and I believe that a nicked bike will spit the thief out; under a bus, into an oncoming car; over the handlebars, kill them with fire, etc.
Don't worry mate, the thief won't get far.
It's a Karma thing.

I hate that too, i had a BMX a few years back i bought it for £250 and spent £400 making it look amazing. Someone smashed right through the front window of our house and it was nicked.
