Hey up, after lots of grief from dodgy bolts, locking wheel nuts and bad weather i've finally finished the setup! Steps below;

b8rl1.jpg

Rnault 21 Turbo calipers as they started out, had them free'd up at a garage, and the coated in hammerite.

Brackets, made to detailed plans by Simons mate.

Ultra gay torx head bolt didn't want to come off so it was faced with a chisel and hammer.

Mole grips on the brake line as it didn't want to come off!

Getting the arsey caliper bolts off the old setup, that were torqued too tight.

Shiney new 285mm x 21mm, vented disc.

Copper slip applied so the disc wont sieze to the hub again.

Washers placed so the bolt didn't go through the caliper and touch the disc. Also this type of bolt was extremely hard to find, and could only get it in this length, hence the washers. Also one one side I needed a washer between the bracket and hub but not on the other which leads me to believe it's a bracket problem.

Before

After! Excuse the poor wheel condition!

Again the wheels are messed up but will be refurbed shortly.

Violent - J, those are grooved discs.

So was this worth all the grief? Hell yeah. The braking compared to the old setup is immense. They bite a bit hard and locked today in the wet which was scary because I wasn't used to it. Went on to some dry road earlier and the stopping power is superb!! Deffinately worth all the effort!

EDIT: You say it's a vented disc, isn't a vented disc one with holes or ridges in?

Vented is when the disc surfaces are split for ventilation instead of solid like your rear discs most likely are.
The old discs here look solid.

Is that normal hammerite on the calipers?

Looking good my friend, didnt think you were ever going to get that locking nut off at one point :D

Go easy on them for a while though eh, I nearly learnt that the hard way!!

That hammerite is the direct to rust one.

Yeah the brackets turned out great, if he can make brackets like that you really could add any caliper to any setup. Getting the exact measurements could prove hard for a novice though.

Yeah i'm letting em bed in, don't worry. As for that nut, neither did I! I was so happy when that came off :D
