Hey all I'm building a mid range gamming PC for my bro and I'm thinking on one of the following cards:

HIS X800GTO IceQ II Turbo GPU PCI-e - I've got a X850XTPE and I love it

OR

Sapphire X1600 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-114-SP)

I was just wondering how these two card compare, which one would be better to play the latest games such as Oblivion etc?

Thanks in advance guys

I think pretty much all the HIS x800 gto's have got the r480 core which unlock and clock to an x850xt so id personally go for that, altho not sure how good the x1600 is.

The x1600 will have SM3 support though which the x800 doesnt. It wouldnt bother me but might you.

Thanks for the reply mate.

Well I've been out the game for a year so this will sound stupid what's SM3 support?

Both cards are about £100 so there not too bad, the HIS is second hand and has been flashed to 16 pipes.

SM3 is a feature used in some games which just makes water look more like water in basic terms. It offers no performance difference but it can make some things look a bit nicer. But i would definately go for the His x800 gto and clock it.

X800GTO for sure :)

Keep in mind the 7600GT is available in places for as low as £117, and it's faster than both cards at stock speeds and is faster still when overclocked. Also has the benefits of SM3 and SLI (not sure how important SLI is for you)

I had to make the same choice in the week... Decided on the X800GTO over the X1600 in the end. Seemed like the better choice. It might lack SM3 but it seemed to have more power:)

HIS X800 GTO Is a brilliant card ;)

it will stomp all over the X1600XT when flashed to X850 XT PE Speeds

when flashed? it can be flashed like the sapphire x800 gto2 to unlock pipelines or something?
