I hope they do else AMD are in serious trouble!

I'm sure AMD will find a way to bite back Intel.
But for the sake of me going to upgrade this year, I want Canroe and it better be cheaper (I want intel to be competitive so it will benefit Us!).

BAH!

Intels prices for Conroe have been officially published for months now, they are priced at the same price per 1000 units as the current Pentium 'D's

Unless there is a major shortage, and the retailers cant get enough chips, (and therefor supply and demand will kick in).

Pentium D 960 = Conroe E6700 2.66Ghz, 4meg cache ($530)
Pentium D 950 = Conroe E6600 2.4Ghz, 4meg cache ($316)
Pentium D 940 = Conroe E6400 2.13Ghz, 2meg cache ($241)

OcUK, are currently selling the Pentium 'D960's at £329.95+vat, the D950's at £194.95+vat, and the D940's at £144.95+vat.

While supply and demand may well affect these prices, its a fair 'baseline' to use as an estimate of price.

Considering in recent reviews the $316(£195) E6600 have outperformed the ($1060)AMD FX62 in many tests, I would say that we're in for some bargain processor power.

If anyone wants to spend $1k on a processor, get the Conroe 3.3Ghz extreme, with a FSB1333 its gonna be a quick processor out of the box. For overclockers, the E6600 is the first one with 4meg cache, yet to see any benchmarks for the 2meg cache conroes, but some of the <2ghz processors with 2meg cache may well prove to be good clockers, as there is less chance for a bit of cache memory to whine about being overclocked.

However it goes, once the supply chain is steady, and any launch day shortages are sorted out, I think intel have a very competitivly priced processor indeed.

Great stuff I got to say.

4.5GHz Conroe... Will have to take a A64 @ 5GHz to compete. The FX62's are no where near that yet.

Saying that, Conroe @ like 3.3GHz beats a A64 @ 4GHz in super pi, 3D Mark etc...
