Okay I want my sister to get a new car as the current car I feel is just not safe enough for her.

Current car is a 1995 Corsa B it has no power steering etc and is quite frankly a death trap.

Budget is £1000 what sort of car would you recomend.

Has to be small and with power steering and have airbags etc. I was thinking a micra but she hates them for some reason so please dont suggest it.

thanks :)

Sorry but there are no cars for this budget and this size of car which will be noticeably safer than a Vauxhall Corsa.

She could go for something like a Fiesta etc but although she'll be getting a better car, it's not really any 'safer' than a Corsa.

Come on fox i was counting on you ;)

Okay perhaps If i can push the boat out i can scrape 1500 would that get me anything a bit better than a 10 year old rust bucket corsa B with no powr steering and unicycle tyres for her.

Maybe around golf and astra size.

Seriously you didn't start getting noticeably safety features in smaller cars that are going to make upgrading from a Corsa until about 2000-2001, and your budget doesn't extend this far. £1500 probably won't really bring anythign new into your range either, and remember most small cars are inherently unsafe compared to larger cars anyway - the 2004 Punto, or what was left of it, on last weeks traffic cops shows this.

She either needs to find a bundle more cash or buy something noticebly larger - 1500 quid Astra wise is Mk3 which is hardly a super-safe car, it isnt enough for a Focus, etc.

if you want a car for saftey forget an upgrade its not worth it. If you want an upgrade and *** saftey is just one aspect drop that requirement.

1999 SUBARU Justy 1.3 GX 4WD one of those?
or a
1998 FORD ESCORT 1.8, S reg.
how about a
Toyota MR2 mk1 or posibly an older mk2

But i agree with fox here.
Most small cars for this price arnt really going to be very safe.

I chose what could be reasonably safe but she really should learn to drive a bigger car or ger a lot more money

You've gotta be taking the mick, right? It's pretty much an old Suzuki Swift with a Subaru badge and 4wd - I'd rather take my chances in a Corsa if I had a crash, that shape Swift has been kicking around since the 1980's. It'll fold like a tin can.

Seen a few renault megans like that one acidhell2 realy nice cars and in budget and is a better car than her current car.

Will have a look at few see if she likes it, and I shall try persuade her to try go for something a bit bigger, will need to let her drive my 5 series to convince her :p

So if she does decide size isnt an issue, are we into mondeo territory here? or any other saloons/larger cars that are as good as that renault megan.

Sorry not being to specific just she was nearly in a few accident with her car in winter due to the rubbish wheels and no power steering she finds it hard to drive. and as ger brother i just want her to be safe.

Yes, easily. She'll be able to get a nice Mondeo with dual airbags, side impact bars, ABS etc etc for £1500, as well as bare essentials like PAS, electric stuff and air conditioning.

Yeah she should get a mondeo from what i just saw on the auto trader.

How will power steeling help her to avoid crashing
Its only really usefull at low speed i find.

And fox, i didnt know the Subaru was basicly a swift :o
We dont get those down here but i though because it was a reasonably newish subaru it would have to be reasonably safe :o

there not bad, but nothing special either just a murr car... slightly under powered. but ok... Depends what year and so for the money...

What I would do is get a list of 3-5 diffrent cars. and take her around 1 day test driving them..

Why the MR2's? The mk1 for a start doesn't have pas or abs. Also by the sound of it the car would be wasted on her as she wouldn't drive it the way it should be driven.
