530d SE - Black Horse Warranty

I'm taking my old man to pick up an 01 530d SE on Saturday and he's been offered a warranty from the garage he's buying it from.

Apparently it's the 'Black Horse Car Plan 1' and costs just over a grand for 3 years.

Does anyone know what this covers, if it's worthwhile considering, and any suitable alternatives?

Any help appreciated.

Nope, don't bother.

http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk - far better, don't quibble with payouts, offer an option to pay extra to have all repairs done by the main dealer, and crucially they cover the two most common forms of faliure which other people dont:

a) Wear and tear
b) Consequential loss.

£11k for a Y reg with 35k, FSH, HPI, 12 months MOT, no tax, NO toys.

What's consequential loss when it's at home?

Is it that warranty direct are particularly good, or Black Horse are particularly poor?

Consequential Loss is damage caused by an ininsured part failing - we'll use cambelt as an example even though the 530d hasnt got one becuase it's easier..

If your cambelt snaps and wrecks the engine lots of companies will not pay becuase the fault was caused by an uninsured part.

From reading the BMW forums where it seems most have warranties, WD are seen as particularly good.

You can haggle with them as well - most of the forum guys are getting 12 month Gold cover for about £250-£300 for the 530 and 525d after they reject the initial quotes and allow them to call back and offer better..

Warranty direct seem to be good - you can haggle as said. I went with them because they were recommended

I got the standard cover for £185 for my MG - the original price was £235 but they were more than happy to reduce it to secure my business. If money is tight you can pay by installments too

Yes they are BUT they cover things others dont and apparently you ring up, get a huge quote, say you'll think about it and 3-4 days later somebody rings you up with a better quote. Keep repeating until it doesnt get any lower

Warrantyworks also has a claim limit of £1000 per claim unless you pay for the £700odd quid warranty.

Exactly - I got the quote from the website and left it. They phoned up a few days later and I said it was too expensive - they dropped it straight away. After a few call backs the price got somewhat lower

Yep true, I agree that this one does look like a better policy so if you can get a better price then great.
