Audi estate for 1-2k(or summat else) or an oddball lugger!

Hello.

Im looking to spend 1-2k MAX on a Audi estate and not sure if they offer a good deal for the dosh?

My bro had a 100 then a 200 Quattro for years and years and was always reliable at high miles so hoping that follows on to the slightly newer Audi estates as in the A4, 100, 80/90's?

And Im not a set-in-stone must have an Audi estate but do like them...anything else comparable for the money? Miles not really an issue as long as the car can take it with decent servicing, engine type not to fussed as long as its not going to struggle with a full load on occassion.

So come on down, spec me an estate for MAX 2k, ideally 1k and even an oddball older car(im still looking for a Mini Clubman estate btw!) will do!

Sometimes any car can be reliable, as long as it has been looked after.

Buying a cheap audi in the hope that it will be reliable may proove to be hit or miss. (this can be said with any car).

Saying that, old mercs are meant to be "bullet proof"?

We're talking a long time ago so I have now idea how they've done in terms of ageing and long term reliability, but my parents had an Audi 100 estate (think it was a 2.6 or 2.8 engine) back when they were available new (think it was K or L reg).

They kept it for a couple of years and my memories of it are that it was a nice solid car, it's actually what sparked my current like of most things Audi.

Toyota Carina E Estate 1.6 or 1.8 GS. Excellent and reliable load lugger, if a little anonymous and of forgettable appearance. Easily does 40 mpg and happily survives on National's £15 servicing for years.

If you do that you want to buy a 1 owner car with like 120k on it, if you buy it after its not been looked after it could be worse then a cheaper car with similar miles. I bet the parts arent cheap

Tesla picked up a mondeo estate for 850. Likely to be newer than a comparably priced Audi and pretty reliable. Also, if stuff goes wrong it will probably be cheaper to fix. It's also a mondeo so I'm gonna get stick for suggesting it

I just bought a 2.0 Mondeo Ghia Estate.

Petrol

R reg (1998)

115,000 Miles

Well looked after

Mint interior and sound engine but stone chipped front from all the motorway crusing (80,000 in just under 2 years!)

Previous owner had a Ford warranty so niggly faults cured and replaced with the uprated parts

MASSIVE boot!

Consumable all recently replaced, inc. cam belt!

All for ONLY £850! BARGAIN!!!

do I take a risk and buy it remotely?

Dont suppose theres anyone in motors lives in Bristol that could have a butchers for me

My parents had a L-reg 2.0 Auto Estate version of these.

It clocked up 55k town miles in 11 years, and never had any issues with it.

Only in so much as i have an insane love for Clubman estates and all sensible thoughts get binned out the window when one comes up!
Looks like ill have to leave that one due to distance and inability to go and see it.
So common sense may yet prevail!

I looked at Escort vans and Escort estates and they really are quite pointless.

What's the point in buying a small estate?

What warrants the use of a small estate?
