Old Camcorder Problem

I've been asked to look at a relatives camcorder, Sony TRV255E Digital 8, which displays two grey blocks right across the screen upon playback. Footage judders with intermittant sound loss.

Any advice on possible causes? Is the camera knackered?

Hey,

as previously posted it could be that the heads are dirty and that they need cleaning, and to be honest it should be done every once in a while anyway.

The two grey blocks that you say about, do they show up just on the LCD screen? do they transfer to the recording?

If it is just on the screen, it may be a problem that means the LCD needs replacing (which is probably not really worth it / cost effective)

so they show up on the eyepiece view finder too?

Hope I could help

I've run the head cleaning tape through a few times but the problem still persists.

The grey blocks don't show up in the viewfinder but do carry over when footage is transferred to the PC.

Any help is very much appreciated :)
