Hey Guys,

My mates are playing a gig at the manchestser academy 3 tomorrow, but only hae my 18-55MM lens on my 350D at the moment.

Is it worth even bothering? I know the lighting is going to be a bit pants.

I would say why not? Never done gig photography but have seen some cracking shots taken with all sorts of lenses. Yes the wider apertures help but its not essential.

If your skilled with the camera you'll get the shots :)

If you can't get crystal sharp photos you could always go for some funky effects.

If there are flashing stage lights etc then you should be able to get some funky shots. If however it's got dim lighting then it's going to be a bit more difficult. You could use the onboard flash if you're close but the pics will look artificial. At least you'll have some pics though. :)

If you're able to get on stage then a wide angle would be cool but the standard lens is probably about right for being in the front row of a gig.

Additionally, a relatively high ISO isn't such a bad thing - the additional noise generally seems to combine quite well with colourful lighting and a bit of smoke :)
