Which is the better card between ati x1800xt, ati x1900gt & nvidia 7900gt.

They're all very similar in price (£20 difference between the 3) and i'm getting a serious migraine trying to decide which one to buy :S

Edit: apologies if this has been asked 1001 times

If overclocking then the 7900GT no question. But the X1800XT will be fastest at stock.
Yep, if your lucky enough to be able to overclock your x1800xt properly than this will score as good as any 7900gt overclocked, x1900gt is a bit of a unknown quantity.

Hmmm, ok.

Now i need to decide wether to buy a Connect3D X1800 XT 256MB @ £164.44 Including VAT or a HIS Excalibur X1800 XT 512MB @ £205.57 Including VAT

I only have a 17" TFT at the moment but i am thinking of buying a 20.1" TFT in 2 or 3 months time. I think the 512mb would be better in the long run but the price of the connect3d £139.95 (£164.44 Including VAT) is sooooo tempting

At the res you play at at the moment the 256mb x1800xt would be the best card performance and price wise, but with an upgraded screen on the horizon I'd say the 512mb version is the most sensible, although a bit more costly, choice.

I seen a review recently showing no difference between the 256/512 model regardless of resolution/detail level, sorry dont have link you'll just have to take my word on it lol.

There's tons of articles online that show how 256MB of video memory is enough, this is my particular favourite due to it being such a good test with such a wide range of results and super high resolutions with and without antialiasing. :)

As for the topic at hand, the X1900GT is actually the least powerful of the three, despite the name. The 7900GT is the fastest if you adjust the voltage with a hardware mod, otherwise the X1800XT is by far the fastest of the three and pretty much the best value for money.

If you feel comfortable volt-modding with a pencil though, go for the 7900GT.

Fair enough just the early reviews that i've seen, and I'm pretty sure Gibbo has also said this, stated that at 1280x1024 and below the 256 model was slightly quicker than the 512 version and only using a res higher than that did the 512 card pull ahead. Will have a hunt around for the reviews

Think i'll buy the connect3d and save myself £40 :D The 512mb doesn't seem to make a massive amount of difference even at 1600x1200
