Hello all,

I need to build the ultimate Rig - For Video editing / Encoding (i.e. converting from AVI to MPEG2 etc..) and Converting to DivX....

Please could you help or advise on what's gonna be the biggest factor on performance here. i.e. what's gonna give me the best performance

is it - pure clock speed - so higher the better?

FSB? or lots and lots of RAM?

I was hoping to base this on a Intel Pentium D CPU...

Thanks

Ideally you want to aim for, 2Gb of RAM, and a dual core processor, as both cores are good, i think the athlon 64 x2's are probably the best for this (though i could be wrong) and then you clocking the CPU's a little until they are stable, but overall, RAM and a dual core imo.

I think that what a lot of the posters here makes sense, but I would add that the software you use will have an impact.

For example, TMPGenc will use Hyper Threading which, feel free to correct me if I am mistaken, the AMD devices do not support.
